Be safe AND look good with our selection of safety lenses. Protect your eyes anytime you are working in an area where particles, chemicals or infectious fluids can damage your eyes.
To qualify as protective safety glasses
Lens materials must meet a minimum centre thickness of 2.54 mm and pass an impact test. American National Standards Institute (ANSI) require the lenses to withstand the impact of a 1/4 inch steel ball travelling 150 ft per second.
Lens materials are made of plastics or hardened glass, which if broken on impact will crumble into rounded puzzle pieces rather than in sliver or shard shapes preventing damage to the eye area.
The frames have a deeper groove to holding the lenses. The groove also tilts forward, away from the eye. The combination of these properties reduces broken lens fragments from entering the eye on impact.
To quality as safety frames, meeting stringent standards for strength and heat resistance, frames should be stamped “Z87”.
